Large Single-Institution Comparison of Perioperative Outcomes and Complications in Open Radical Cystectomy, Intracorporeal Robot-Assisted Radical Cystectomy, and Robotic Extracorporeal Approach.

Bladder cancer management options include open radical cystectomy (ORC) and robot-assisted radical cystectomy with intracorporeal (ICUD) or extracorporeal urinary diversion (ECUD). Existing literature establishes no difference in major complication rates between ORC and ECUD, but the emerging popularity of ICUD exposes a necessity for comparisons of a completely intracorporeal method to alternative approaches.

IBCN 2019: Topography Analysis from Multispectral Imaging of the Immune Landscape in Bladder Cancer FFPE Specimens

Aarhus, Denmark (UroToday.com) Dr. Tomoko Iwata from the University of Glasgow School of Medicine presented data demonstrating the feasibility of performing multispectral imaging to allow for topography analysis of the immune landscape in bladder cancer Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens. Tissues were stained with a 7-color Opal manual kit from Akoya (Hopkinton, MA, USA). Machine learning […]

IBCN 2019: Platinum-Based Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy on the Bladder Tumor Microenvironment

Aarhus, Denmark (UroToday.com) Dr. Jeroen van Dorp from the Netherlands Cancer Institute presented his work investigating the effect of platinum-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) on the bladder tumor microenvironment. Patients who had a near-complete response were identified with paired formalin-fixed paraffine embedded tissue available from 45 cases. Pairs were said to comprise of TURBT tissue and post-chemotherapy cystectomy […]

IBCN 2019: Molecular Subtyping in Patients with Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer

Aarhus, Denmark (UroToday.com) Dr. RY Zhang from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai performed molecular subtyping on a cohort of 363 patients with muscle invasive bladder cancer, in an effort to identify the predictive value of subtyping on neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) followed by radical cystectomy. Dr. Zhang reported that an institution-specific CIT-basal subtype fared worse relative to […]

IBCN 2019: Neoadjuvant Cisplatin-Based Chemotherapy on T Cell Phenotypes within the Sentinel Nodes of MIBC Patients

Aarhus, Denmark (UroToday.com) Dr. David Krantz from Umea University in Sweden presented data investigating the effect of neoadjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy on T cell phenotypes within the sentinel nodes of muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) patients. A cohort of 27 patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) followed by sentinel-node dissection and radical cystectomy (RC) were identified and compared […]

IBCN 2019: Multicenter Validation Study of Histopathologic “Tumor Regression Grading” Following Neoadjuvant Therapy for Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer

Aarhus, Denmark (UroToday.com) Dr. Charlotte Voskuilen of the Netherlands Cancer Institute presented a multicenter validation study of histopathologic “tumor regression grading” following neoadjuvant therapy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Tumor response grade (TRG), is a histopathologic score assigned by a pathologist to classify radical cystectomy (RC) specimens as having had complete, strong, or weak/no response. […]

IBCN 2019: Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer Novel Mouse Model Capable of Orthotopic Transplantation

Aarhus, Denmark (UroToday.com) Dr. John Sfakianos from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York presented a novel mouse model of muscle-invasive bladder cancer that was capable of orthotopic transplantation. This was achieved using OHBBN-induced carcinogenesis in mice, with global GFP and luciferase expression Tg(CAG-luc-eGFP). Sorting GFP+ tumor implants to the muscle […]

IBCN 2019: TERT Promoter Mutations in Low-Grade Bladder Cancer Carcinogenesis

Aarhus, Denmark (UroToday.com) Dr. Robert Stoehr of the University Hospital Erlangen presented data from nine, TERT-altered, whole-organ mapped bladder specimens that were analyzed for TERT promoter mutations. Microdissection of the organ was performed with DNA isolation of the mutational hotspot region within the TERT core promoter region (-260 to +60). 8 of 9 specimens were […]
