A Phase I, Open-label, Dose-escalation, and Cohort Expansion Study to Evaluate the Safety and Immune Response to Autologous Dendritic Cells Transduced With AdGMCA9 (DC-AdGMCAIX) in Patients With Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Expression of carbonic-anhydrase IX (CAIX) in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) makes it an attractive vaccine target. We developed a fusion-gene construct, granulocyte-macrophage (GM) colony-stimulating factor+CAIX, delivered by an adenoviral vector (Ad) into autologous dendritic cells (DCs) in this phase 1 study.

Penile sparing techniques for penile cancer.

Penile cancers are rare malignancies. Traditional surgical options, including partial and total penectomy, can dramatically affect a patient’s quality of life and mental health. In select patients, penile sparing techniques (PST) have the potential to remove the primary tumor with comparable oncologic outcomes while maintaining penile length, sexual function, and urinary function.

Current status and future perspectives of immunotherapy in bladder cancer treatment.

The treatment strategy of bladder cancer has evolved not only through the traditional modalities of surgery and chemotherapy but also by immunotherapy over the past several decades. Immunotherapies such as intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccines and immune checkpoint blockades (ICBs) are sometimes used for treating patients with bladder cancer, especially those who develop resistance to […]

ESMO Virtual Congress 2020: Health-Related Quality of Life at Final Analysis of the SPARTAN Study of Apalutamide vs Placebo in Patients with Nonmetastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer Receiving Androgen Deprivation Therapy

(UroToday.com) There has been a rapid evolution in treatment options for patients with non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) since the spring of 2018. Up until the presentation of SPARTAN and PROSPER trials, reporting on the use of apalutamide and enzalutamide in non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, at GU ASCO in February 2018, there were no specifically approved […]

ESMO Virtual Congress 2020: Tolerability of Olaparib in Patients with Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer and Homologous Recombination Repair Gene Alterations: PROfound

(UroToday.com) In 2016, Pritchard and colleagues reported that mutations in DNA-damage repair genes, particularly homologous recombination repair genes, were relatively common among patients with advanced metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). This opened the potential for targeted therapy: poly (adenosine diphosphate [ADP]-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors lead to an accumulation of DNA single-stranded breaks which have particularly profound […]
