Thromboembolism in Patients with Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma Treated with Immunotherapy – Beyond the Abstract

Cancer-associated thrombosis is a condition where patients with active cancer have a higher risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism compared to the general population.1-2 Compared to patients without cancer-associated thrombosis, patients with cancer-associated thrombosis have a higher morbidity and mortality, higher likelihood of cancer progression, and increased health care costs.2-4 Specifically, patients with […]

Lack of Consensus Identifies Important Areas for Future Clinical Research: Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) 2019 Findings

Background: Innovations in treatments, imaging, and molecular characterisation have improved outcomes for people with advanced prostate cancer; however, many aspects of clinical management are devoid of high-level evidence. At the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) 2019, many of these topics were addressed, and consensus was not always reached. The results from clinical trials will […]

A population-based retrospective cohort study analyzing contemporary trends in the surgical management of urinary stone disease in adults.

We aimed to review the trends and incidence of surgical intervention for adults with upper urinary tract stones in Ontario, Canada, and to hypothesize potential causes for the observed changes. We carried out a retrospective, population-based cohort study using administrative databases held at the Institute of Clinical Evaluative Sciences (IC/ES) to identify all adults (≥18 […]

Comprehensive Genetic Analysis Reveals Complexity of Monogenic Urinary Stone Disease.

Because of phenotypic overlap between monogenic urinary stone diseases (USD), gene-specific analyses can result in missed diagnoses. We used targeted next generation sequencing (tNGS), including known and candidate monogenic USD genes, to analyze suspected primary hyperoxaluria (PH) or Dent disease (DD) patients genetically unresolved (negative; N) after Sanger analysis of the known genes.

Decision making, preference and treatment choice for asymptomatic renal stones – Balancing benefit and risk of observation and surgical intervention: A real-world survey using social media (SoMe) platform.

The burden of kidney stone disease (KSD) has risen, and several treatment options now exist. We wanted to evaluate the preference and treatment choices based on the information provided for management of hypothetical 8mm and 15mm renal stone, and factors that influenced their decision.
